Today’s children are growing up in a different world than the one our parents, and that most of us grew up in. Parents and educators are not always able to keep up with all of the changes. Does that mean the we are failing our children?
Yes!!!!!
Today’s children are also growing up in a more diverse world, africa and ethnic communities than many of their parents. What is the responsibility of parents and educators in the 21st century? Will traditional practice render parents and educators out of touch with children’s needs?
Time have change, and it also time to change the education system!
The importance of teaching multicultural education to our children at home and in schools.
“Multicultural education should be introduce and encourage in african schools policies, so is africans’ history. Teaching practices that foster understanding and appreciation of our diversity, and promote positive and constructive intercultural relations on all levels in all systems”
Goals of multicultural education in schools and at home
*To teach children to respect others’ cultures and values as well as their own.
*To help all children learn to function successfully in a multicultural and multiracial society.
*To develop a positive self-concept in those children who are most affected by racial, tribal or
ethnicity discrimination.
*To help all children experience in positive ways both their differences as culturally diverse people
and similarities as human beings
*And to allow children to experience people of diverse cultures working together as unique parts of
whole community.
[All a part of being a better us and a better africa]
